We have never entered an online competition of any sort. However, £2000 prize money is enough good reason for us to enter the competition brainchild of Travel Supermarket.
The online contest is entitled ‘Capture the Colour‘, which basically translates to getting your camera and taking snapshots of anything that captures the vibrant colours of blue, red, yellow, white and green. That easy, isn’t it?
So Sean and I scoured for our old and recent photos, which we think captured best the intense hues of what Sydney has to offer.
Here they are, in no particular order. (Ooops! I am sounding like a pageant host already!)
Bluer than Blue
This photo was taken during the annual Festival of Lights here in Sydney, aptly called the Sydney Vivid Lights. This festival of lights occurs during the months of May and June, highlighting the creativity and grandeur of two of the iconic symbols of Sydney, The Opera House and The Harbour Bridge. Amongst our photos taken that night, we chose this because of the artistic representation of blue in a moment where everyone seems awed and affected, not just by the gloomy rainy weather that night, but also by the splendid shower of colours in amongst the different structures that dotted Circular Quay.
The Green-ning Dog
When we went and had a looked at the Museum of Contemporary Arts located at George Street in the famed The Rocks, one of the most inspiring works we have seen was a sculpted dog atop an artistically-made wooden piece, which we think was grinning to us. And since, the marvellously sculpted piece was in green, we decided to include it in our choices to outline the humorous side of modern Australian artists. Then, of course, to cleverly give it a caption we opted to fuse the words green and grinning to symbolically refer to this humour!
“Mega” White Tap
The ever famous Bondi Beach is transformed to a gargantuan artistic masterpiece, littered with literally massive structures along its coastal walk towards nearby Tamarama Beach yearly during the spring months of October and November. Last year, we spotted the “mega” white tap along with other creative, contemporary structures, most in their three-dimensional forms evoking amazements and wonders from both, the young and the old.
Looking Through the Yellow Staircase
In one of our recent wandering around Sydney, we took an artistic photo of a staircase, capturing a look from below towards its ceiling. This photo reminded us that even if things are difficult to reach, perseverance and patience are our best ‘steps’ in attaining our goals. (Sounds like I’m a minister now!) It is one of our amazing photos included in our page – Captured By The Lens.
Red is the Colour of Love
During the most celebrated season worldwide, Sydney makes it a point that it would be celebrated with enjoyable, splendid and breathtaking festivities. During last year’s Christmas Season, various architectural structures across Sydney were lit up with vibrant and joyous colours of love, peace and hope. One of them is St. Mary’s Cathedral, which is seen in this photo capturing the colour of love in all its majesty.
There you go, our choices for the Capture the Colour competition!

Brilliant choices! The pictures are great! I particularly like the first one, with the vibrant blue, and the poses of the onlookers in silhouette-with the umbrella and the girl with her hand on her hip and leg crossed-they’re very graceful.
